Counselling is the art and science of actively listening to, deeply hearing, dynamically reflecting on and appropriately advising people about the problems and challenges they bring to counselling.
An old saying is, “A problem shared is a problem halved”.
Sometimes just talking out the problem can make a big difference in the size of the problem for a person, getting the feelings out and by seeing things more clearly and getting a better perspective on things..
Sometimes counselling is most useful in assisting clients to discharge their emotional distress and tension, enabling greater clarity of thought and perspective.
At other times counselling is about clarifying problems and getting a better perspective, and sometimes help breaking the problem down into parts and looking at step-by-step solutions.
